Senators Morgan McGarvey of Louisville and Dennis Parrett of Elizabethtown were re-elected to serve in Senate Minority Leadership positions by their Democratic Senate colleagues.

Sen. Reggie Thomas of Lexington is newly elected to leadership and will become Minority Caucus Chair. He replaces outgoing Sen. Johnny Ray Turner of Prestonsburg.

“I am honored that my colleagues have selected me to serve as the Senate Democratic Caucus Chair,” said Thomas. “We have a lot of work ahead of this session, and I look forward to working across the aisle with my legislative colleagues to address the challenges facing our state.”

McGarvey, who was re-elected to serve as Senate Minority Leader, expressed his encouragement with the newly elected leadership team.

“I am proud of the leadership team we have moving forward,” said McGarvey. “We have a lot of work ahead of us, and we know it won’t be easy with supermajorities in the Senate and House. However, with this group, we are committed to fighting for issues that will benefit everyday Kentuckians.”

Parrett, who will now serve his second term as Minority Whip, spoke on his re-election to leadership.

“I want to thank my colleagues for the confidence they have in me serving as Whip,” said Parrett. “I am hopeful this session we can get to work and make Kentucky the best it can be a place where people want to live, build a home, and raise their families.”

The Kentucky General Assembly will convene for the 2021 Legislative Session at noon on Jan. 5 for a brief organizational session. Following, legislators will break and return to Frankfort in February to resume the 2021 Regular Session.
